Visitors Prove To Be More Than A Handful
Amateur Football Alliance Senior Cup: Old Meadonians 3 Alleyn Old Boys 0
Any one arriving late at Riverside Lands for the second round Amateur
Football Alliance Senior Cup clash between Old Meadonians of the Amateur
Football Combination and Alleyn Old Boys from the vaunted Southern Amateur
League and finding Meads were already, after fifteen minutes, two goals
up, could have been forgiven for feeling the need to pinch themselves
as they would have been greeted by the sight of the visitors proving themselves
to be more than a handful.
However, this frenzied action was taking place in midfield
where the visitors had two extremely tenacious and strong players. These
two kept possession but were matched by their shepherds Jake Gowers and
who, in true sheep dog trial manner, kept them turning and twisting to
no avail and more importantly denied them the space to make any kind of
incisive pass. Even if they had broken their bonds, there would have been
no reward for the effort as, in any case, the visitors had no one capable
of putting a bite to their bark, as illustrated by the fact that the hosts’
keeper Joe Beharie had barely a single save to make for the duration.
