Amateur Football Combination Premier Division

Old Parmiterians 4 Old Meadonians 2

Old Meadonians’ chickens came home to roost with a vengeance as their mix and match team, including three players carrying injuries were outlasted by Old Parmiterians, hosts at Walthamstow who, despite having already being relegated, showed resilience to come back from two down and crack in four second half goals.

You would not believe that this game was being played on Meads’ bête noire all weather-surface from watching the first half. They got off to a flyer when just three minutes in Kevin Quinn put a twenty yard free-kick from just wide of the area on the right unerringly into the far top corner.

Ten minutes later Parms’ square defence allowed Alex Jones to thread the ball through for Jake Gowers to cruise into the area and give the keeper no chance. Meads were unlucky not to be out of sight at half time as Jones hit the bar from the edge of the area and mid-fielder Will Gerrish burst through to hit the side netting from a narrow angle.

The second half saw a sad reversal of fortunes as Meads legs started to go, not helped by the unyielding surface. It took Parms ten minutes to open their account and twenty minutes to equalise and then they got the bit between their teeth to swarm all over a flagging Meads and rush in two more. In his post match briefing coach Rory Vermeulen praised the squad for giving their all and running themselves into the ground and added that Meads could still come out top if they won their last two games.

Squad: Robinson, Shea, O’Sullivan, McCombe, Quinn, Gowers, Gerrish, Chapman, McKenna, A. Jones, Mace, Cope, Miller.
