Bright start for Meads’ new signing

The waterlogged Highgate Levels having ruled out the first team’s Middlesex and Essex Senior Cup clash with Old Aloysians, the spotlight falls on Old Meadonians’ Reserves who are finding their feet after a similar start to their campaign to their seniors.They hold the London Old Boys’ Intermediate Cup and had little difficulty in keeping it in their grip against a Glyn side which is second in their table and pressing for promotion but four divisions below.

Throughout, the hosts found it difficult to deal with the pace on offer from Meads’ attack backed by a mobile, dominant and free-thinking mid-field led by Jordan Mace. The hosts fell behind after fifteen minutes as striker, Nick Wilson’s fierce shot from the edge of the box, although well saved, was parried to lurking new signing, Ryan Bright, to pounce.

Bright’s ‘Johnny on the spot’ act brought his and Meads’ second ten minutes later, this time after Jeusy Netto’s shot produced a similar reaction from the home keeper. Achieving this comfort zone proved a snare for the visitors as they proceeded to gather wool, slip back and allow Glyn to gather strength. Half way though the second half came the final wake-up call when the hosts were awarded a soft penalty. Meads’ keeper, Tim Lee’s burgeoning confidence saw him diving to his left to save magnificently, take his tally of clean sheets to five and postpone Glyn’s consolation which came from a one on one in the last minute.

Mentioned in dispatches were, Tim Lee, full back John Bull, Jordan Mace, Nick Wilson, Jeusy Netto, Ryan Bright who cemented his bedding with a brace to add to his goal for the first team two weeks ago when coming off the bench on his debut but Jordan Mace was named MoM for his barnstorming first half performance
