Old Meadonians capture first trophy of the season On a bright sunny day at Civil Service sports ground, Chiswick, Old Meadonians were victors in a thrilling encounter with Winchmore Hill An unknown quantity to the side from Chiswick, it was clear from the start that Winchmore Hill were going to be no pushovers. In the normal Cup Final posturing first half, Meads were the more convincing, with openings created and their opponents restricted to long range efforts easily dealt with by Sayers in goal. A decision to award Winchmore Hill a penalty for an innocuous challenge with ten minutes to half time on the clock, shocked, it seems, even the penalty taker. Only he will know how he managed to stab the ball into the spreading legs of Sayers, Meads "shot stopper extraordinaire". The second half was dominated from start to finish by Meads and, the two deftly taken goals from Ben Fox was just reward for a Meads side who have out played most teams this season. A header into the roof of the net and a sweet side footed volley into the bottom corner from the lively Fox sent the crowd of hundreds whooping with delight. League games and another Cup Final on Tuesday 8th April at Wingate and Finchley await this exciting team and "the treble" remains a possibility If you feel you would like to be a member of this progressive and friendly club why not get in touch with chairman David Tyler on OMFCSlipper@aol.com or visit their web site www.omfc.co.uk March 24, 2003 Sign up for our free weekly newsletter
