Hockey result : PHC Chiswick 6 Slough 1
PHC Chiswick played host to Slough in their penultimate game of the season knowing a win would guarantee promotion to the South Premier League Division 1.
Chiswick started strongly and had their tactics worked out from the first whistle as they pressed the Slough defence hard and maintained much of the possession forcing a number of chances and short corners and scored their first goal on 16 minutes when Martin King collected an accurate pass from full back Chris Hovington to put Chiswick 1-0 up.
Mitch Jamieson added a 2nd after 20 minutes following a short corner and a goal mouth scramble which put PHC firmly in control. Some fine defending from Colin Allen and a good save from Rob Cooper kept Chiswick on course for a half time lead and they went 3-0 just before the break when Ashley Holman scored from a powerful shot from the top of the circle.
Chiswick continued to play some attractive hockey in the second half and dominated in midfield through Dharmesh Puna, John Cowie and Dan Loman and it was Dan Loman who put Chiswick 4-0 up 5 minutes into the restart following a quick attacking move involving Dan Hall and Richard Shawyer.
PHC where well and truly on top at this stage and top scorer Nayan Maken added a 5th following a good move down the right when Mitch Jamieson beat two players to find Maken at the near post. Slough scored a consolation goal before Maken scored a 2nd goal to seal victory and PHC Chiswick are now promoted as Champions.
Chiswick can now go into the last game of the season against Newbury on April 10th in a relaxed mood knowing they will be playing Southern Premier Division hockey next season.
Coach Chris Hovington commented "This was an excellent performance in front of a big home crowd and capped a great finish to a hard season. We will have to improve next season in a number of areas but I am confident we can hold our own in the next league".
