Mini and Junior Rugby Season Resumes

Chiswick RFC prepares to kick off a busy new year

The TREDS cups are awarded

Mini and Junior Rugby has started again at Chiswick RFC. A Sunday morning of golden sunshine greeted our first session of the 2017-18 season. We had a lot of familiar faces and welcomed a lot of new starters. We were busier than expected but our coaches were ready and waiting to get the pitches back into use and run sessions with their customary sizzle.

Unlike the grass, we have not been resting over the summer. We have redone the clubhouse, which has a new floor and also we have acquired some new kit. This includes the much awaited tackling donuts. These allow players to learn the art of tackling on a moving target that cushions them during their tackle and in the fall. Tackling starts at Under 9 (before then it is tag) so the groups U9 and above can look forward to using these.

This season also sees the introduction of the new TREDS cups, sponsored by Robin Trott, of RT coaching, who runs children’s coaching courses in the school holidays. TREDS are the RFU values we play by, and stand for “Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship”

After the session, all of the teams gather in front of the clubhouse at and the cups are awarded. Players can take them away if they wish but they must be returned the following week. This is seen as a great bonding exercises, as all Minis and Juniors players are together and skills and attitude are recognised.
