Restaurant says Chiswick customers 'prefer the discount to the quality'
The Brickoven Milano restaurant on Chiswick High Road has closed.
Following weeks of speculation, as the restaurant was shut with chains on its front gate, the agent has confirmed that the lease is now up for sale for £195,000.
Alex Hill of The Leisure Partnership said that a number of interested parties had been around to view the property.
It is understood that a liquidator has been brought in to effect a sale.
It is not clear whether the owner of Brickoven has returned to Italy. Tweets from the restaurant's Twitter account blamed the location and local people for the failure of the restaurant saying 'this location it is too borderline in Chiswick and the costumers (sic) prefer the discount to the QUALITY.'
Brickoven Milano was founded in 1997 by Marco Montorfano who inherited the business from his grandfather Giacomo. There are a number of Brickoven Milano branches in Milan.
When the restaurant opened last January, the owner said he had made the choice of Chiswick for the first Brickoven Milano outside of Italy due a preference to be located in a residential area.
Chiswick was divided into three different areas: the main restaurant, the cafe and the children’s area which was to provide a safe indoor playground while parents were dining. Another tweet by the restaurant seems to suggest that the play area may not have been as successful as anticipated. It stated, ' London is child friendly but the costumers (sic) don't want to have children in the restaurant!!!'
Brickoven replaced Bardolino which had in its turn replaced Frankie's.
