Come in from the cold, drink in the warmth of Hotel Chocolat's velvet-smooth hot chocolate
Hot chocolate is a delicious antidote to the doldrums of winter, when we need a really, really good reason to venture out of our homes and offices and brave the elements. A cup of Hotel Chocolat's hot chocolat is reason enough – velvet-smooth and made using real, gossamer-fine flakes of chocolate, it comes topped with a mound of Cocoa Whip, a cloud-like delight so thick it's best consumed with a spoon.Open as of August 2019, Chiswick's own chocolate-fuelled pitstop – Hotel Chocolat, 208 Chiswick High Road – is dotted with neat tables for two. After you've finished browsing luxury chocolate boxes, gift sets, cacao-infused tipples and more, take a seat and retreat from the bustle of the outside world. Set down your shopping bags and wrap your hands around a restorative hot chocolat, your choice of brownie, biscuit or other snack alongside.
But a stop here is not just for winter: when the mercury rises, you can swap the hot chocolat for Hotel Chocolat's own soft-serve: Ice Cream of the Gods. Exclusive to limited locations, including Chiswick High Road, it's made with Jersey milk and cream infused with Theobroma cacao nibs; the direct translation is ‘cacao, food of the gods', so perhaps it's no wonder it tastes so heavenly.
Like the rest of the chocolatier's products, their hot chocolat is made with 100% Engaged Ethics cacao, and according to their brand mantra: ‘More Cacao, Less Sugar'. “Making our chocolate this way delivers a more satisfying cacao hit and a richer, deeper chocolate experience,” says Peter Harris, co-founder. “You can taste it for yourself at Chiswick High Road – keep an eye out for one of our sampling trays. Every day we offer complimentary chocolates for our guests to taste, which change every month.”
This month's offering? White chocolate Passion Fruit Hearts: an intense passion fruit zing tamed in the chocolatier's house 36% white chocolate – and just one of Hotel Chocolat's romantic Valentine's Day recipes…
