Ramsay Closes The Devonshire

Celebrity chef blames state of the pub industry for its demise

There have been murmurings on the grapevine for well over a year, but today Gordon Ramsay Holdings officially announced the closure of The Devonshire pub blaming the state of the pub industry for its demise.

The pub, which has not reopened after a small kitchen fire last weekend, is, by its founder's own admittance, "at the wrong end of Devonshire Road".

It was amongst six of Ramsay's restaurants that accumulated a hefty £4.3million loss for the celebrity chef.

Opened by then Chiswick resident Mark Sargeant on behalf of Ramsay, The Devonshire closed after three years as it was "failing to meet the expectations of Gordon Ramsay and business partner Chris Hutcheson".

The company is said to be undecided about how to deal with the property.

A spokesperson for GRH told ChiswickW4.com, “It’s obvious the pub market has been struggling and The Devonshire pub has not been meeting our expectations for awhile. We have taken the decision to close it while we consider future plans, as any business would in this situation.”

The Devonshire appeared on a property website for sale in January 2009 which the company said at the time was "an administrative error."
