The West London Sinfonia (WLS) will be performing a concert at St Michael and All Angels Church in Chiswick on Saturday 16 October at 7.30pm.

Come and enjoy live music once again with Elgar’s Enigma Variations, Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No 1 and Grondahl’s Trombone Concerto.

Conducted by Philip Hesketh and leader Iwona Boesche, the October concert will feature three prominent works.

Elgar’s Enigma Variations is an orchestral work comprising fourteen variations on an original theme. Elgar dedicated the work "to my friends pictured within", each variation being a musical sketch of one of his circle of close acquaintances. Those portrayed include Elgar's wife Alice, his friend and publisher Jaeger and the man himself.

Grondahl’s Trombone Concerto, featuring soloist Justyn Waterman, was written in 1924 and was inspired by the trombone section of the Orchestra of the Casino Theatre in Copenhagen.

In Peer Gynt, incidental music by Norwegian composer Edward Grieg was written to accompany the verse drama of the same name by Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen. The music debuted to great acclaim in 1876 when the play was first produced for the stage and it remains among the most popular of Grieg’s compositions.
