Debut single showcases the song writing talents of Chiswick's Charley Bickers
'Somebody Somewhere' is the debut single from local band 'War Makes Heroes' released after spending a month in the studio with Verve’s Nick McCabe, described by many as the most innovative guitarist of his generation.
After a chance meeting in a pub five years ago Nick has been hugely supportive of 'War Makes Heroes' and all previous incarnations. He had previously remixed a few tunes but it was only in January this year that he played on the records himself.
The music hinges around the song writing of Charley Bickers, grandson of legend Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader whose life was immortalised in the classic film ‘Reach For The Sky’. Kenneth Moore’s moving portrayal of his triumph over adversity captured the hearts of the nation. This year marks the 25th anniversary since his death.
“War Makes Heroes carve out their own unique place in today’s modern musical climate. There’s something very English and refreshingly unaffected about the sound, most importantly it feels genuinely believable. ‘Somebody Somewhere’ is a great summery tune and approaches the acoustic genre from a fresh and uplifting angle. The album ‘Peace Hides Villains’ ranges from celebrational to dark and haunting, touching on all that lies between. It is testimony to the strength of the songs that even with such stripped down arrangements they still sound full and complete.”
'Somebody Somewhere' will be released digitally on August 30th and has been taken from the forthcoming ep 'Peace Hides Villains'. www.myspace.com/warmakesheroesuk
