Fire Damages Chiswick Fruit And Veg Stall


Police say the circumstances are suspicious

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fire at a fruit and veg stall at Essex Place, outside Sainsbury on the Chiswick High Road. The fire is suspected of having been caused deliberately and caused over £5,000 worth of damage to the unit.

Two units of the London Fire Brigade, one from Chiswick and another from Acton, were called to the scene at around 3 a.m. today (Monday ,June 25th) after reports of smoke coming from the stall.

The fire was under control after half an hour. About half of the unit was damaged.

The area has been cordoned off while the incident is being investigated.

The stalls are a popular feature of Chiswick High Road and have been in the area for several years

A statement from the police said that they had been called to the fruit stall at around 4 a.m. early on Monday 25th June after reports that someone had set fire to the stall.

"Both police and London Fire Brigade attended where the circumstances were believed to be suspicious.

Damage to the value of £5000 was caused, full enquiries have taken place but at this stage no-one has been identified or arrested in connection with the incident".
