New Artwork 'Plot Points' Unveiled on the W4th Plinth

A new artwork has been unveiled on Chiswick’s W4th Plinth, continuing one of the area’s most distinctive community-led public art traditions. The piece, Plot Points by West Yorkshire-based artist and writer Tanya Meditzky, was installed on Saturday 17 January at 11am, drawing residents to Turnham Green Terrace piazza for the occasion. Musicians from Chiswick School performed as part of the launch.
Plot Points replaces Paris Study by Philip Michael Wolfson, which had occupied the plinth for the previously. Like of the more recent W4th Plinth commissions, the new work was selected through a public vote following a jury shortlist.
Meditzky’s artwork is the result of what she describes as “prolonged experimentation with maths”—an exploration undertaken not by a mathematician, but by an artist driven by curiosity and a willingness to play. The image emerged from a long, offline process of trial and error, without the use of digital tools or AI. A number of unexpected visual configurations surfaced during this process, eventually developing into an ongoing series of works.

The W4th Plinth, curated by local environmental and arts charity Abundance London, has become a familiar landmark since its launch. Inspired by Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth, the Chiswick version presents a rolling programme of temporary artworks displayed on the brick railway embankment overlooking the piazza.
A new artwork is installed roughly every six months. The project attracts hundreds of submissions—nearly 500 entries were received in the most recent round—before a jury narrows the field and the public votes for the winner. Over the next two years, the winning work and runners-up will be shown in rotation.
Previous installations have ranged from photography to abstract compositions to community-created pieces, reflecting the breadth of artistic voices the project welcomes.

Founded in 2010, Abundance London works with schools, volunteers, businesses and local government to reconnect people with nature in an urban setting. The group harvests surplus fruit, plants orchards and trees, and creates green and artistic spaces across Chiswick. The W4th Plinth is one of its most visible initiatives, blending creativity with community engagement.
The plinth forms part of a wider trail of artworks along Turnham Green Terrace, helping to animate the streetscape and offering residents and visitors a changing visual experience throughout the year.
