Rotating canvas near Turnham Green station due to be changed
New artwork will be revealed on Saturday 13 January
January 4, 2024
A new piece of artwork is to be put in display on the rotating canvas space at the Turnham Green piazza.
The unveiling ceremony, which is open to the public, is due to be held by the railway embankment at 11am on Saturday 13 January. It will see the removal of The Ceiling in the Sky by Cristina Schek who will introduce the new work.
Cristina Schek’s artwork was selected by public vote after being shortlisted by a panel of judges from nearly 500 entries.
The new piece, which is described as an ‘intriguing image with a twist’, has been selected from works that were the top choices in last year’s vote. It was decided that, as there were so many submissions of such high quality, some of the most popular pieces will be displayed over the next year.
The so-called W4th Plinth aims to infuse artistry into the urban landscape and transform the piazza at Turnham Green Terrace into a focus for community life, art and planting.
The initiative, which has been running for five years, is a collaborative effort between local community organisation Abundance London and local artists.

Abundance co-ordinator Karen Liebreich said, "The W4th Plinth represents a bold step towards transforming our city into a vibrant, open-air gallery, celebrating creativity and fostering a deeper connection between art and our daily lives. We envision this as a space where art transcends boundaries, sparking imagination, and enriching our collective experience."
The first ever display was in 2019 with pop art master Sir Peter Blake’s artwork The Chiswick Empire and since then new pieces from both emerging talents and established creators have been displayed for at least six months.
