The deadline for comments on Heathrow expansion is 19 December

Now that the Government has extended the consultation period on the proposed Third Runway at Heathrow until 19 December, CHATR (Chiswick against Third Runway) is appealing to local residents to act now to lodge their objections. This follows the publication of new information reinforcing the negative environmental impact on west London, particularly on air pollution levels, and revised figures putting Gatwick ahead in terms of the economic benefits.
A spokesperson from CHATR said: “Even if you lodged an objection during the previous consultation period, we ask you to add your voice again in opposing the Third Runway in order to demonstrate the strength of local opinion and have an impact on the decision-making process. The combination of increased noise, traffic and air pollution will dramatically alter the environment and change Chiswick forever.”
Officially produced noise maps show that Chiswick will have significantly increased and highly disruptive aircraft noise if the new flight paths are organised, as expected, to minimise the total number of people affected. You can respond using the online form although CHATR recommends that it’s probably easier to send your comments by email: RunwayConsultation@dft.gsi.gov.uk (or write to: Freepost RUNWAY CONSULTATION) to avoid tackling the technical language in the online form.
CHATR added: “Please bear in mind that if you do use the form, you are free to write whatever you want about your objections and there is no need to give a lengthy response, whichever medium you use. We suggest that you could base your response on a very useful list of key points produced by campaign group HACAN.”
CHATR is currently writing to every MP as part of their campaign against the Third Runway but is keen to remind residents of the need for individual action: “We are appealing to everyone to submit an individual objection, as the volume of objections lodged is critical.”
Airport Watch has advised that there will be new flight path directly over Chiswick with many feeder routes as planes turn onto the new glide path to approach the runway. Planes will be at an estimated 2,000 feet only with a noise of 70-90 decibels, which is significantly above any levels currently experienced. This would be similar to the noise disturbance currently experienced in places like Richmond or Twickenham.
