Theatre West Four Presents Anne Boleyn
Chiswick group will perform at Questers from 20 Nov
The Chiswick drama group, Theatre West Four, will perform their latest production, Anne Boleyn, at the Questers Theatre, Ealing from 20-24th November.
Every year on the 19th of May flowers are delivered to the Tower of London to mark the date when Queen Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s second wife, was executed in 1536.
The flowers have been arriving for forty years and no one knows who sends them. They are put on the floor of the Chapel of St Peter the Vincula, beneath which Anne’s body - and head - are buried in a wooden chest without a plaque or head stone. Her opposers tried to obliterate her existence by removing all pictures and carvings containing her name or initials.
Howard Brenton's Anne Boleyn, originally written for The Globe in 2010, is a fresh and lively romp through the story of one of the most important and fascinating periods in British history. Told with humour and vitality, Anne is seen, partly through the eyes of James I, not just as a sexual predator or political pawn, but as the intelligent, moral and modern woman that she was.

Anne Boleyn was convicted of adultery, incest and treason. At her trial she was accused of being a witch, her brother’s mistress and sleeping with hundreds of men while she was married to the King. She had been queen for three years. Her story is an intense tale of love, death and betrayal, but also of recklessness and daring sexual awareness. What is not commonly portrayed is her religious zeal and passion for the reformation of the faith. This, perhaps more than history suggests, gave her enemies the tools for her downfall.
For almost fifty years Theatre West Four has been staging amateur productions in West London. Members come from all over London to participate in readings, workshops, rehearsals and productions. The group welcomes enthusiasts interested in performing, directing, producing, stage management and all aspects of theatre production.
