Chiswick 'Super Saturday' Proves a Success

Planning already underway for a repeat of the event next year

Planning has already started for next year's Super Saturday of Sport in Chiswick after the event's success at Turnham Green on the weekend.

More than 500 people attended the day, with 15 sports providers offering free coaching to children of all ages.

Chiswick resident and acclaimed TV Sports Presenter, Clare Balding opened Super Saturday which began with a colourful mascot race. For the record, Fusion's Ollie the Octopus was the winner!

The event was organised in just over 8 weeks by Chiswick mum, Kirsten Lonsdale, who has already contacted Hounslow Council to see when she can organise next year's event.

"The day surpassed my wildest dreams. I have had such incredible feedback from the sports providers, businesses, volunteers and most importantly the children. Everyone has said they want to be involved next year and new people have contacted me already, asking if they can be involved next year," Kirsten said.

"We will tweak a few things, because everything can be improved, but for my first attempt at organising an event, I think it went really well".

The former 5,000 metre world record holder and current British 3,000 record holder, David Moorcroft came as part of his ambassadorial role for the Join In and Community Games campaigns. He handed out free Belu water to children and signed autographs.

Christ Church opened up their doors to host "Henry" the horse, a mechanical simulator to give children the sensation of horse riding. Indoor rowing races happened all day and Animal Fu, Aerobics and Hip Hop dance created a lively atmosphere inside the church.

Sam's Bar and Brasserie provided smoothie making bicycles and Coffee NV kept the mum's and dad's satisfied with great coffee and cakes.

"I can't wait for next year. Its going to be even bigger and better!," Kirsten concluded.
