Church Hall On Southfield Road Reopens After Makeover

St Peter's was once a venue for rock group The Who in the sixties

St Peter’s on Southfield Road, Chiswick is about to take the wraps off its refurbished church hall this weekend.

Once the venue where The Who took their early formative steps in the 1960’s, the century old building, which originally served as the church itself, has been transformed in the five months since it closed last August.

The old stage, made of railway sleepers, which overlooked tired blue parquet floor tiles has gone. In its place is a high quality sprung dance floor, with a wall of mirrors and a rail along one side.

The Arts Educational School on Bath Road has been so impressed by the new facilities that it will use the hall on a regular basis as part of their extended programme of courses.

Discussions are continuing with another Chiswick performance group for weekend usage.

W4 Youth will be returning with an increased schedule of weekday nights.

The Girl Guides will also continue to use the hall.

The kitchen has been completely redesigned with disabled access for a wheelchair’s full turning circle. There are new cloakrooms and a new meeting room equipped with office furniture as well as storage cupboards at the back of the hall.

The ceiling has been replaced. The outside walls have all been whitewashed and there’s now a covered walkway linking the church to the hall. In short it’s a complete make-over and many local groups who have used the hall over the years will scarcely recognise this wonderful facility.

The official handover from the contractors takes place on Saturday 19 January. Members of the congregation will have their first glimpse of their new hall on the Sunday.

It’s hoped that the new St Peter’s Hall will become a valuable addition to the Chiswick community.
