Shadow Chancellor To Visit Chiswick

John McDonnell will attend a Stand Up For Labour fundraiser

The Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell will be headlining a night of comedy, music, poetry and magic at the George IV (185 Chiswick High Road, London W4 2DR) on Wednesday 29 June.

Stand up for Labour is the 182nd fundraising event for the Labour Party organised by Crispin Flintoff, a former Labour Party candidate in Chiswick Homefields.

Flintoff is also now putting on a tour of the country for Jeremy Corbyn, #JC4PM, which has attracted thousands of people to big theatres across the country.

'The George IV was the first venue I used for a Stand up for Labour date. I have so many good memories there. The Michael Foot Memorial night, where the whole room started singing 'The Red Flag' with Neil Kinnock, or last year when Jeremy Corbyn parked his bike outside before a debate about what Labour should do after the General Election defeat. Little did we know then that Jeremy would be the leader a few months later!'

As well as John McDonnell, the event on 29 June features comedy from John Moloney, who was winner of the Best Live Performer award for two years running at the London Comedy Festival, John has become one of Britain's most in-demand comedy acts, a true comic talent. John was also delighted to be nominated as ‘Best Live Stand-Up’ at the British Comedy Awards.

Singer/songwriter Grace Petrie is a powerful new voice in folk music, whose political repertoire has taken the country by storm. Her performances at #JC4PM nights have seen audiences form long, orderly queues to buy a copy of her CDs!

Attila the Stockbroker has been performing poetry since the 1970s. His background in the punk movement saw him appear on the 'Peel Sessions' and he has since become a popular singer, poet and author. Like Grace, Attila has also been very popular at #JC4PM dates.

Magician Ian Saville has been presenting his Marxist Magic and ventriloquism for over 30 years. Whereas David Copperfield is content with little tricks like making the Statue of Liberty disappear, Ian aims at the much more ambitious goal of making International Capitalism and exploitation disappear. True, he hasn't quite succeeded, but he keeps on trying!
