A week in the life of a local councillor in Chiswick
Cllr Sam Hearn who represents the Riverside ward in Chiswick, is chairman of the Chiswick Area Forum. He has written this account of his week as a busy local councillor
Friday 27th February: At the Hounslow Conservative Club for the Conservative Association AGM. Glad that for once we begin to look like a well-oiled machine.
Saturday 28th February: Spent the morning supporting the delivery network. A chance to catch up on emails from residents and colleagues. Prepare for the next Area Forum including considering a late report. No evening meetings this week at the Civic Centre.
Sunday 1st March: Reviewing progress made on various matters that I have raised with officers on behalf of residents. Trying to decide what specific and general issues I can raise with Hounslow Highways on Wednesday; dead street trees, deteriorating road surfaces and poor road signage.
Monday 2nd March: Printing off relevant papers and focusing on next week’s whole day of Governors’ meeting at Strand-on-the-Green Junior School. Where did I put my Link Governor notes?
Tuesday 3rd March: Shuffling Hounslow Highways papers and photos ahead of tomorrow’s meeting.
Wednesday 4th March: To Hounslow Highways offices at Jubilee House this morning with other members of the Housing and Environment Scrutiny Panel. It is fascinating to see, at first hand, the administrative “heart of the beast”. Good to be able to talk to senior managers away from the often acrimonious atmosphere of Area Forum meetings. To Dorking Halls in the evening for a live broadcast of the RSC production of Much-ado-about-Nothing.
Thursday 5th March: Absorbing the information that LBH has had no legal authority to impose penalties for parking infringements in the Chiswick House Car Park. You cannot make this stuff up.
Friday 6th March: Quiz night at my son’s school tonight.
