Fuller's said that the pub still retained its traditional pub feel and had been given a stylish makeover. The menu has also been redesigned, but the bar is still at the heart of the pub, they said.

"In addition, the large room to the back of the pub, which many in the area will know as a comedy club, has been opened up to allow in more natural light. This has created a fantastic space for live entertainment, family celebrations, business seminars and conferences. The Boston Room, as it is now known, can hold up to 200 people," the company said.

The bar will house a wide range of cask ales from London and international brewers, many of which will change on a regular basis. Meanwhile, the new menu focuses on freshly cooked delicious dishes using carefully selected, high quality ingredients.

The George IV is also under new management. Rachel Watson has been working for Fuller’s for 12 years and has achieved Master Cellarman status.

Rachel says: “It’s really exciting being part of a new phase in George IV’s history. It’s been a busy few months and we are all proud of what we have achieved. It is the perfect place to drop in for a pint or a bite to eat and we will be keeping our tradition of live entertainment, which will maintain the great atmosphere in this iconic pub. It is known as a ‘local’ to many, and I am looking forward to welcoming customers – both new and old – through the doors.”

Jonathon Swaine, Managing Director of Fuller’s Inns, says: “We are very excited about the re-opening of the George IV. We relish the challenge in refurbishing iconic pubs like this and the team has done a fantastic job in bringing one of our flagship pubs up to date. We have tried to recapture everything great about going to a pub – great beer, great food and great atmosphere. We know the George IV’s customers are in safe hands with Rachel – she is an excellent manager and a first-class host.”
