Somewhere Over The Rainbow

A scene from London's rainy summer by Ian Wylie

Chiswick-based Ian Wylie took this picture of a summer's day of sunshine and showers.

Ian took the picture from Hungerford Bridge just after yet another huge London downpour.

His photograph featured as part of the Daily Telegraph's 'Pictures of the Day' for Wednesday, July 11th.

Ian explained how it came about;

"Having just escaped yet another Chiswick cloudburst, I caught the tube from Turnham Green to Embankment with the intention of taking some pre-Olympic photos along the Thames.

"Emerging at the other end it was clear central London had just endured its own latest torrential downpour.

"It was still raining as I began to walk across Hungerford Bridge to the South Bank but the sun was out.

"Then as I looked east in the direction of Waterloo Bridge, I could see a beautiful newly formed rainbow over St Paul's Cathedral.

"A very lucky case of being in the right place at the right time."

A well-known journalist, Ian has lived in Chiswick for over thirty years. A former London Editor and TV Editor of the Manchester Evening News/MEN media, he writes for a range of publications and is a specialist TV writer for 25 years, interviewing top stars.
