Post Office Ltd has announced the intended opening date for the new branch inside the Robert Dyas store on Chiswick High Road.

The decision to move from Heathfield Terrace to a new permanent location inside hardware store was confirmed recently. The launch has been set for Friday 28 August at 12 noon, following the closure of the current branch two days earlier. The current branch at 1 Heathfield Terrace closes on Wednesday 26 August at 5.30pm.

The new counters will be at the rear of the store on the ground floor. Robert Dyas has already shortened display aisle to allow space and work is continuing behind plastic sheeting while the shop remains open.

The new branch will offer extended hours operating Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, providing 54 hours of service per week — an increase of six hours compared with the current schedule.

Inside the refurbished store, the Post Office will occupy a dedicated area with three open-plan serving positions, designed to improve accessibility and customer flow. Access to the premises will be level at the entrance, and the new location is only 120 metres from the existing branch.

During the two-day gap between closure and reopening, customers are directed to Shepherd’s Bush Post Office at Westfield as the nearest alternative.

The move marks the end of a long period of uncertainty for Chiswick residents, who have seen the Post Office operate from temporary premises since the closure of the original branch. Post Office Ltd states that its priority has been to secure a stable, long-term service for the community, saying the relocation “enables us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the local community… whilst securing the long-term viability of Post Office services in the local community.” A petition in support of a proposed standalone Post Office on Chiswick Common Road run by the existing Heathfield Terrace team attracted over 2,000 signatures.
