Public Consultation On Piccadilly Line Stopping At Turnham Green

Mary Macleod announces TfL is to ask the public for their views

Brentford and Isleworth MP Mary Macleod has announced that Transport for London (TfL) have confirmed they will carry out a public consultation on stopping the Piccadilly line at Turnham Green.

The consultation is expected to start within weeks. Mary described it as "a major step forward" and urged local residents to get involved and have their say. The local MP secured a promise from the Mayor Boris Johnston to look into the matter when he visited Chiswick during the Mayoral Election campaign last year.

At a meeting on August 7th with TfL Operations Director, Nigel Holness and the General Manager of the Piccadilly line, Tony Matthews, TfL outlined their plans to take forward this public consultation, starting late summer through to October. Details on how to get involved will be published soon and local residents will receive information through the door from TfL.

The stop between Hammersmith and Acton Town is 4.4km – the longest distance between stops on the entire Piccadilly line and more than three times longer than the average distance of 1.42km between stops.

Mary commented: “I have been working with local residents and campaigners for many years now to get the Piccadilly line to stop at Turnham Green during the day. I managed to secure an agreement from The Mayor of London to get TfL to look into this when he came to visit Chiswick during his election campaign in 2012 and I am delighted that they have now announced the dates for this public consultation.

“Passengers will finally get their say on this matter and I would urge all local residents to take part in this debate – it is a major step forward.”
