Bruce Dickinson will kick off the music festival at the Hogarth Health Club

Iron Maiden superstar and Chiswick resident Bruce Dickinson will launch the third Oxjam music festival next weekend (19th October) at the Hogarth Health Club at noon.

The heavy metal frontman has just returned from a sell-out tour in Chile where the band was the biggest foreign concert draw ever- a total of 226,000 tickets were sold for the seven shows. Iron Maiden was banned by the church from playing in Chile in 1992 but the band have played there four times in the last six years and recorded a live DVD.

Bruce is also an experienced pilot

The headline act, Counterfeit Stones will also play at the Hogarth from 7-11 pm.

The festival will see 120 bands playing at ten venues locally all in aid of the charity. Music will span across disco, indie, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Nu folk, Irish, acoustic, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Roots, Reggae and Rock, and all proceeds will be donated to Oxfam GB. Tickets are now on sale at wegottickets.com/oxjamchiswick at a special advance price of £5 for U18's and £13 for adults.

This year Oxjam has added a new venue to the mix for the up-and-coming under 18’s; Metropolis Studios at 70 Chiswick High Road. The home of Metropolis Group, this beautiful listed building used to be a power station, and is essentially isolated from its neighbours, the perfect home for a live music venue.

Julian Chattin, spokesman, said: “The festival grows and grows and Chiswick and the surrounding areas really seem to have embraced what we are about and especially the quality and diversity of the music on offer. Next Saturday at 10 venues along or just off Chiswick High Road, come and experience an epic 14 hours of music. Spanning Disco, indie, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Nu folk, Irish, acoustic, Jazz, soul, funk, hip hop, RnB, Roots, Reggae and Rock. We have tomorrow’s headliners, rising starlets and the cream of local talent! We’ve even got Rock Choirs, Gospel Choirs, school Choirs, steel Drum bands, Ukele Orchestras and introducing for 2013 Classical and Opera! We’re really excited to be playing our part in making Chiswick part of a month-long musical celebration right across the country."

During October more than 800 venues, 11,000 volunteers, 9000 bands and musicians and over 200,000 audiance members will help Oxjam raise at least £260,000 to fight poverty.
