Brewer runs out of places to hoist golden flags for Olympic victors

Chiswick brewer Fuller's has been marking British Olympic success by swapping the Union Flags for golden ones. The display is clearly visible from the A4 near Hogarth Roundabout.

However, the better-than-expected performance of Team GB has presented Fuller's 'medal-o-meter' with a problem. With only 19 flag poles there is no longer a place to mark each win. The team has 25 golds at the time of writing. 19 was the number of gold medals won at the Beijing Olympics.

Keith Tidy of the firm's Estates Department has been busy running up and down ladders in recent days as he has been the person responsible for switching the flags.

Richard Fuller, director of Fuller’s and great great great grandson of one of the founders, John Fuller, said: “We’re delighted that the games have come to our home and as we are on one of the major routes in, we thought we’d show our support for the men and women who have spent the last few years training hard for this moment.

“We are delighted that all of our flag poles are flying gold flags, and we have even had to double up on some of them. We’re still keeping an eye on the news and ready to put more up as and when we win them.”
