Stalwart of Chiswick British Legion dies


Alan Day served as President for years

A former president of the British Legion in Chiswick, Mr Alan Day (89) has died.

He was a familiar face in W4 through his local community work, and he organised the local Poppy Appeal and laid the wreath at the memorial service on Turnham Green for many years.



He also served as Chairman of the Brentford and Chiswick Public Relations Council and helped set up The Chiswick Town Hall Users Group. He worked for the Prudential Assurance company on Chiswick High Road until he retired in 1983 and went to live in Buckinghamshire with his wife Margaret in 1986.

He became a Liberal Democrat councillor on South Bucks District council and continued his work for the local British Legion for many years.

The funeral will be held at St Giles’ Church, Stoke Poges at 1.30pm on Friday 9TH March .
