Sign up for the next cycling course for nervous parents and children
The first course of Back in the Saddle, cycling for nervous adults and children, finished last Saturday and the participants (those who could soggily wait for their prizes!) were awarded some congratulatory presents by Cllr Andrew Steed from Southfields Ward, Ealing and Brentford & Isleworth MP Ruth Cadbury MP, who both braved the rain to congratulate the participants.
The courses take adults for the first two lessons, then adults with their chlldren for the second two sessions. There were parents and their kids, and god-parents and their kids, aged from 6 years upwards. Trainers were Philippa Robb and Derek Mullan, both of whom over the years have trained thousands of children, lorry drivers, women and all sections of society.
Hounslow Cycling Campaign, who organised the course in response to demand from parents at St Mary's School, were delighted with the outcome. Michael Robinson organiser said: 'The first course was fully subscribed, and feedback has been really positive. The course covered safety and tips and techniques so family groups can visit locations in the local area without being dependent on a car for their journey'.
Helen Simpson, one of the participants, tweeted 'This course is brilliant and the instructors couldn't be better. I highly recommend it for cyclists and motorists alike.'
Bookings are now open for the next course, four Saturday mornings at 10am, around Chiswick, starting on 3 November.
Email training@hounslowcycling.org to reserve your place. The event is free, thanks to support from Southfield Ward of Ealing Council, and London Borough of Hounslow.
