Popular Sports Presenter Has Bag Stolen In Chiswick

Night out in local pub spoiled for Kelly Cates who is daughter of Kenny Dalglish

Police are investigating the theft of a handbag belonging to the daughter of Liverpool football legend Kenny Dalglish, which was taken while she was in a Chiswick pub.

Kelly Cates, (37) who is a sports presenter for ESPN UK, has issued an appeal to help her find the thieves who struck while she was enjoying a night out in the Duke of Sussex pub on South Parade last Tuesday (Nov 27).

Police in Ealing have confirmed they are investigating reports of a theft on Tuesday 27 November 2012 at approx 2205 at a venue in South Parade, W4. A police spokesperson said no arrests had been made and enquiries were ongoing.

The management of the Duke of Sussex said they were fully cooperating with the police investigation.

The sports presenter said the bag was taken from under the table where she was sitting.

"I just want my bag back. I only really want the stuff that's rubbish to someone else," she commented on the internet.

Kelly, who was born in Glasgow, uses her married name in her professional career as an ESPN sports presenter.

She is married to Tom Cates whom she met while she was working on Sky Sports and he was a producer. The couple have two young children. Kelly was part of the Channel Four team for the London 2012 Paralympics.

Recently, Kelly presented the six-part Scottish television series Coached Off the Couch for STV. She has also interviewed her famous father on ESPN about his life and career.

Kenny Dalglish recently visited Chiswick with other Liverpool well-known names from the world of football to take part in recording the Hillsborough tribute song which the organisers hope will win the Number One spot in the Christmas charts.

He spent the day with comedian John Bishop, former footballer turned BBC pundit, Alan Hansen, and footballer Peter Reid, at Metropolis studio on Chiswick High Road, which is donating studio time and technical help with the recording. The Liverpool ‘ celebrities’ sing on the backing track of the song, the Hollie’s ‘He Aint Heavy’.
