Hounslow Friends of Faith invite locals to join them as they visit four sites of worship
A local voluntary group which brings together people of different faiths (or no faith) has invited residents in Chiswick to join in its annual Walk of Peace and Friendship this year which will visit four local sites of worship.
This year’s Walk of Peace and Friendship will take place on 1 July, and will visit Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, and Russian Orthodox places of worship in Chiswick and Brentford.
Charanjit Ajit Singh, chair of Hounslow Friends of Faith said “In the current climate it is vital that we participate in Interfaith activities so that we get to know each other as people, learn to celebrate our differences, and work together for the common good. ”
The aim of the Hounslow Friends of Faith is to bring together people of faith and no faith, with the aim of increasing understanding, cooperation and mutual respect between communities.
Hounslow is a very diverse borough, with many communities of different faiths and ethnicities. Hounslow Friends of Faith has been working, for a number of years, to bring the faith communities together through local social, charitable and educational activities. Sharing festivals and meals plays an important part in their activities.
A highlight of the annual calendar is the Walk of Peace and Friendship, which this year is centred on the Brentford and Chiswick areas, with visits to four places of worship.
The programme of visits on 1 July is:
11.15 Hanuman Hindu Temple,
Sri Datta Hindu Centre, Beech Avenue,
Brentford TW8 8NQ
13.00 Russian Orthodox Cathedral,
Harvard Road, Chiswick W4 4ED
14.45 Christ
Church, Town Hall Ave,
Turnham Green, Chiswick W4 5UJ
16.00 London Buddhist Vihara,
The Avenue, Chiswick W4 1UD
At each place of worship there will be a short talk by a community leader to explain the basics of their faith and rituals. The host venues will provide refreshments for their visitors. People joining the walk are asked to dress modestly. Although participants are encouraged to walk, information on bus routes and route maps will be available.
Anyone interested in joining the walk will be warmly welcomed. The eventprovides an opportunity to meet new people and experience different places of worship.
