Hogarth Singers Autumn Concert

Britten and music from French composers

The Hogarth Singers Autumn Concert will take place on Saturday, November 17 th at 7.30 pm in St Michael and All Angels, Bath Road.

The organisers promise it will be a “mouthwatering concert of music from both sides of the channel” with beautiful French motets, including Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine, Cesar Franck's Panis angelicus and music by Dupre.

This will contrast with a look forward to the 100th anniversary next year of the birth of Benjamin Britten. Two pieces, Rejoice in the Lamb, and the cantata St Nicolas, display his extraordinary eye for a striking text, and his genius in setting them. With musical settings depicting a cat called Jeoffrey, the warden of an 18th-century mental institute and three pickled boys, this is one not to miss.
