Tree Planting Day At Harvard Hill Recreation Ground

Volunteers needed to help plant 800 native hedge plants

The Friends of Harvard Hill are hosting a community tree planting event at Harvard Hill Recreation Ground, on Saturday 30 November, from 10am – 2pm.

The tree planting day has been
chosen to coincide with the Woodland Trust’s Plant a Million Trees campaign, #everytreecounts, which is urging 1 million people to plant a tree to help fight the climate emergency.

The Friends of Harvard Hill are inviting everyone to help improve the environment in the park and would like to see as many community members as possible coming along to plant a tree too.

They will be planting a hedgerow almost 200 metres long, with over 800 native hedge plants, and a row of living willow arches in the west end of the park. “We need as many helping hands as possible” say the organisers, “We’re really excited about our plans for renovating the park and adding native plants and flowers to encourage wildlife and provide a brighter environment for children and families. We hope to see lots of people joining us in planting trees on Saturday 30th November.”

The Friends plan to improve the overall environment in the park and broaden access to even more people in the community. They hope to combat pollution as well as make the park greener and more attractive to wildlife by introducing native plants and adding oak trees and willow arches. They envision the park becoming a green oasis linking up the Gunnersbury Nature Triangle and providing habitat for animals like hedgehogs and stag beetles.

The planting project is taking place thanks to a grant from The Mayor of London’s Our Space scheme, support from Hounslow Council , Abundance and London National Park City.
