Hare & Tortoise 'Race' To Chiswick

The restaurant acted quickly to secure new premises on High Road

The Aesop fable of the Hare and Tortoise was given a local twist when a noodle and sushi restaurant with the same name "raced" to capture a lease on its newest premises in Chiswick.

The restaurant will open this summer on the former premises of Strada, which closed last week.

“In the children’s story, the slow but sure tortoise beats the headstrong hare in a race. But speed was just as important as determination when it came to landing this desirable leasehold,” says Richard Negus of licensed leisure specialists AG&G, who represented the vendors.

“It’s a prime site in a fashionable part of town and will complement the restaurateur’s other premises in Bloomsbury, Ealing, Putney, Kensington and Blackfriars very nicely,” he commented.

Hare & Tortoise restaurants offer casual dining with mid-priced freshly-prepared sushi, noodle and Asian-influenced dishes. Apart from central London the nearest locations to Chiswick are their branches at Putney and Ealing. The menu includes a wide selection of Japanese dishes ranging from Sashimi, Nigiri, Tempura, Maki, Sushi boxes, and a selection of rice or noodle dishes, Ramen soups and Malaysian curry.

Their new Chiswick property comprises a fully-fitted restaurant and first-floor flat.

A representative of the owners said they would be carrying out a refurbishment which would take about four months.
