Another Successful Clean Up Chiswick Community Event

Gunnersbury area got a spring clean from team of local volunteers

It was another big turnout for the now monthly Chiswick Clean up initiative started by residents and local councillors.

The third installment was organised by West Chiswick and Gunnersbury Society as part of the WCGS’s Green up Gunnersbury Campaign and has been registered as part of the Great British Spring Clean 2019 on the Keep Britain Tidy website: This is part of a UK campaign encouraging communities to come together and help ‘to transform the natural and urban environments.’

Keep Britain Tidy Spring Clean campaign runs up to the 22nd April as it continues to encourage communities and local authorities to work collaboratively to minimise waste, combat littering and improve the state of public spaces. Cllr Mushiso said ‘ We decided to team up with Keep Britain Tidy because we share the same values in wanting to preserve our environment and to educate our future generation about connecting with their local community.’

More than 50 local residents turned out on Sunday afternoon recently, including Councillors Mushiso, Biddolph and Marie Rabouhans, the chairman of the West Chiswick & Gunnersbury Society.

Before the group set off for west wards towards Chiswick Roundabout Marie Rabouhans rallied the group saying, “ Welcome to Gunnersbury! We are lucky to live in this area with its attractive residential streets most of which lie within a Conservation Area. Like anything well-loved, however, there's always a need for some TLC. So it is really great to see so many of you here today – together as a community we can make a difference.”

After the hour-long clean-up operation along the Gunnersbury section of Chiswick High Road and the adjoining side streets, several volunteers gathered afterwards at the entertainment space in the Chiswick Business Park for a now customary refreshment and shared conversations. The local Co-Op opposite Gunnersbury station got into the community spirit of the occasion by contributing some refreshments for our volunteers.

West Chiswick & Gunnersbury Society also provided some homemade cakes and soft drinks to cap off a wonderful afternoon. Afterwards Cllr Mushiso said, ‘This initiative has really taken off. It is wonderful to see the momentum gathering and that we are bonding as a group of environmentally conscience residents. We have started to identify patterns and areas of concerns that perhaps are not obvious to the teams at Hounslow Highways and the Waste Management department at Hounslow. I will be taking these concerns up directly with Hounslow Highways on behalf of our residents’

The next clean-up is scheduled for the Sunday 28 April. The venue has yet to be confirmed.
