The Grove Park Piazza crowdfunding campaign is going remarkably well and they now have over £48,000 in donations pledged, but there is still a way to go to reach the target of almost £79,000.

Local support has been tremendous and the organisers are hugely grateful to those who have pledged so far.

A spokesman said;"We are now up to 62 backers who have pledged £48,380. However the target of £78,918 must be reached by 30th September."

To further raise awareness they are staging another marquee event outside the shops on Saturday 29th July where there will be a free barbecue and drinks between 12 am and 3 pm plus a live band. The tent will be up from 9 am onwards with displays of the concept designs and GPG committee members on hand to answer questions.

"If everyone in Grove Park who has not yet done so pledged the cost of a round of drinks we would get to the total," they say.

The piazza project is now a Mayor of London Community Project with a crowdfunding page on SpaceHive.

The GPG says; "This a unique opportunity to significantly improve the area where we live and work. The Piazza will transform a large, unappealing area of tarmac into an increased pedestrian zone with wider pavements for café, shop and pub visitors. Both the regular and disabled parking bays will be retained. Money pledged will pay for the design phase, 50% funded by the local community and 50% by Hounslow Council."

The group says that the area around the shops has been long overdue regeneration as the pavement is narrow, sloping and provides poor accessibility. Block paving the entire area and introducing traffic calming features will significantly improve pedestrian safety. The area outside the cafe would be widened and more tables could be added, creating a focal point.

The project has the support of Hounslow Traffic, local ward councillors, residents and businesses.
