World Premiere of Harper's Canticle of the Sun


Michael Chance to perform piece at Grove Park Festival

On 26th September, Grove Park Festival will play host to a premiere of Celia Harper's setting of Canticle of the Sun, which has words attributed to Francis of Assissi. This work hasbeen specially commissioned by the festival and is to be performed by the renowned counter-tenor Michael Chance, accompanied by two harps from the Royal Academy of Music's Heavenly Harp Ensemble.

This concert will take place at St Nicholas' Church, Church St W4 2PH at 7.45pm on Wednesday September 26th and will also include another premiere by Ruth Brychmore, Head of Composition at the RAM.

Celia Harper is a local composer and the director of Chiswick Baroque, the 5 voice a cappella group which performs regularly in churches in the area. She was also Composer in Residence at Holy Innocents Church who commissioned a Patronal Mass in 2009, since performed three times by the Petros Singers.
