Local Artist In Royal Academy Exhibition
Francis Bowyer explores The Spirit of Places
Well-known local artist Francis Bowyer (on right) is currently having a very successful exhibition at the Royal Academy in central London.
The Spirit of Places, which will run in the Gallery Cafe until February, explores the artist's recent areas of interest.
The work captures atmospheres in Parisian cafes and more recently London restaurants; conceptual and intimate views of the interior of his studio; and the Suffolk landscape of Walberswick, that has always remained close to his heart.
Shepherd's Delight
Francis told Chiswickw4.com : "The Spirit of Places' exhibition title came about because they are places I know and have particular interest for me and for my work. I've always felt that knowing a place or subject strengthens one's understanding and responses and this for me is through painting.
"The exhibition took a couple of years to put together. It has been a great success so far. The Private View was very well attended, and I had positive comments from those attending as well as from other visitors to the exhibition. Around half of the 25 pictures on show have sold so far."

A member of a well-known artistic family with close links to Chiswick,( he currently has a painting in the St Michael's Advent Calendar auction) Francis Bowyer studied at St. Martins School of Art and Chelsea School of Art and currently teaches life drawing at the Royal Academy Schools. He is a Member of the Royal Watercolour Society, where he served as President of the Society from 2000 – 2003 and is a Member of the New English Art Club.
Francis recently visited Camp Bastion, Afghanistan as a War Artist.
His commissions include the National Grid and London Federation of Clubs for Young People.
He has work in collections held at RWS Diploma Collection, St Cuthberts Paper Mill, National Grid plc, London Federation of Clubs for Young People, the Royal Collection and H.R.H. The Prince of Wales Collection, and with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and in private collections internationally.

The exhibition runs until February 10th, at the Gallery Cafe, Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington Huse, Piccadilly. Opening hours 10-6 Sat-Thurs, 10am-10pm Fridays.
