A large crowd assembled in the centre of Chiswick this Tuesday (19 November) to see the Christmas lights being switched on.

The rain stopped just in time, as children and grown-ups gathered around the Christmas tree next to the Hogarth statue and many mince pies, Tea Cakes and chocolates were consumed. Even Santa, his chief Reindeer and Elf were also present at the event.

On the stroke of 5 pm, the tree and surrounding roads were spontaneously illuminated with the assistance of little ones in the crowd when they pressed the magic switch provided by Chiswick Lighting.

The choir from Chiswick School's Performing Arts Department, led by its teacher, Tommy Robinson, gave enthusiastic renditions of favourite seasonal songs.

Local residents Lynda Fisher and Marlene Johnson have organised events in Chiswick for Christmas and they thanked sponsors, including Snappy Snaps, Hounslow Council (which provided the tree on the High Road), Wheelers (which provided the tree on Turnham Green Terrace, Chiswick Lighting (which provided home made mince pies) and M&S, Tesco & Sainsbury's for mince pies, teacakes, chocolates, etc

With Chiswick now appropriately illuminated the Children’s Christmas Scavenger Hunt commences with 50 prizes on offer. Look out for posters in local shops.

Entry forms can be collected now from Chiswick Lighting Company, 30 Devonshire Road and they must be submitted back there by 5 pm Friday 13 December.

Children aged between 5 and 11 are invited to take part in the hunt by spotting unexpected items in windows of participating local shops.. The lucky winners will be notified by text on Saturday, 14 December.
