Christmas in Chiswick Team Bringing Festive Family Fun

Coming up – the Christmas lights switch on and a scavenger hunt

Father Christmas will be attending the switching on of the Christmas lights

November 17, 2024

Local residents Lynda Fisher and Marlene Johnson have organised family fun this Christmas in Chiswick with a visit from Father Christmas and a scavenger hunt for children aged 5-11.

The festive programme begins on Tuesday 19 November when Santa arrives to see the Chiswick Christmas lights switched on at the corner of Annandale Road and Chiswick High Road (opposite Turnham Green Terrace). There will be carols for the Chiswick School choir from 4.30pm with the lights switched on at 5pm.

As well as the tree provided by the council on that corner, Wheeler’s Garden Centre has donated a decorated tree at the top of Turnham Green Terrace which will be switched on at the same time. The lights will be turned on using a special light switch provided by Chiswick Lighting on Devonshire Road. The Christmas poster was printed by Snappy Snaps.

Children aged between 5 and 11 are invited to take part in the scavenger hunt by spotting unexpected items in windows of participating local shops. Pick up a competition form, a list of participating shops and details of prizes to be won, which include treats and goodies donated by local businesses from Chiswick Lighting, 30 Devonshire Road, from Tuesday, 19 November and return it by 5pm on Friday, 13 December. The lucky winners will be notified by text on Saturday, 14 December.

Look for unexpected items in the windows of 30 shops along four roads: Bedford Corner, Chiswick Common Road, Chiswick High Road, Devonshire Road and Turnham Green Terrace. The shops are: AALondon Gallery, Bayley & Sage, Beehive, Bookcase, Chiswick Lighting Company, Chiswick Pets, Everybody Reads, FourFourFour, Frivoli, Gail’s, Greige, Hair at Number Three, The Hyde Gallery, Klassi Hair, LA Menswear, Lemongrove Gallery, Lizard, Marmalade, Nami, Oxfam, People Hair, Philip Neal, Post Room Cafe, Snapdragon, Stitching Room, Tamp, Tribe Rugs, Urban Tropicana, W4 Bathrooms, West and Hunter, Wild Bunch, Windfall Natural.

There is a long list of exciting prizes to be won, generously donated by Chiswick’s businesses on six roads: Bedford Corner, Chiswick Common Road, Chiswick High Road, Devonshire Road, Elliott Road and Turnham Green Terrace from: Banya No1 Spa, Chiswick Lighting, Chiswick Pets, Damsel, De Joli, Duci, Everybody Reads, Frivoli, Gail’s, Greige, Hair at Number Three, The Hyde Gallery, The Lamb, LA Menswear, Lark, Lizard, Macken, Marmalade, My Place, Nami Oriental Food, Napoli on the Road, Odonno’s, Ole & Steen, Philip Neal, Quirky Pixie Décor, Rice Persian Kitchen, Rich Nails, Sam’s Kitchen, Snapdragon, Stitching Room, Tamp, Tarantella, Urban Pantry, Wheeler’s Garden Centre, Whistling Oyster, Wild Swans, Windfall Natural.

The Christmas in Chiswick team hopes children enjoy the scavenger hunt, and their parents enjoy exploring Chiswick and perhaps finding shops, cafes and restaurants they haven’t been to before. Look for the poster in participating shops.

It is particular grateful to all the sponsors and particularly Chiswick Lighting, Chiswick School Choir, Snappy Snaps, Wheelers Garden Centre, the events team and all businesses taking part, whether by displaying unexpected things in their windows for the scavenger hunt or by providing exciting prizes, and in some cases both.
