A Musical Start to Christmas in Chiswick This Year
School students entertain the crowds as festive lights are switched on
Chiswick School students sang Christmas songs and carols

There was a musical introduction to the festive season at the switching on of the Chiswick Christmas lights this Monday evening (27 November).
Students from Chiswick School aged from 11 to 18 entertained a sizeable crowd with a number of seasonal songs including The Twelve Days of Christmas. They were directed by Chiswick School’s creative arts co-ordinator Tommy Robinson.
Despite the icy weather, the rendition was very hearty and those attending joined in fortified by mince pies and Tunnock’s Teacakes which provided energy before the singalong and a reward afterwards.
Father Christmas offered presents to a lucky few younger members of the crowd who gathered on the pavement to watch and join in.
The switch was pressed illuminating a beautiful tree by the Hogarth statue on the corner of Annandale Road and Chiswick High Road and lights along Devonshire Road, Chiswick High Road and Turnham Green Terrace.
After the lights were switched on, the crowd turned to listen to acclaimed cellist Orlando Jopling and renowned violinist Sijie Chen of Wild Arts opera company who will be performing Handel’s Messiah at St Michael’s and All Angels on Saturday, 9 December.
The event concluded with more carols from the Chiswick School students.
Chiswick will have two other decorated and lit trees this year, as last year. They are due to arrive this week at the top of Turnham Green Terrace (near the tube station) and on Chiswick High Road outside Empire House (opposite the Town Hall).
