Sam Shepherd Play Next Production at the Tabard


Simpatico is a tale of what happens when you take another man's Buick

Simpatico the new production at the Tabard Theatre is a play by Pulitzer Prize winner Sam Shepherd.

Described as an elegiac take on the film-noir genre it is in turn comic and dark, the play encompasses revenge, blackmail and what happens when you take another man's Buick.

Will Birch directs Stephen Chance, Michael Lawrence-Killingbach, Janet Kumah, Edward Newborn and Emmy Happisburgh.

Vinnie, Rosie and Carter had pulled off the perfect scam, switching racehorses and blackmailing the official that got in their way. But while Rosie and Carter prosper from their ill-gotten gains, Vinnie finds himself on the edge of society nursing his resentments and a bottle of Black Bush whiskey. Vinnie has come to a decision ... He isn't keeping their secret anymore.

Writer Sam Shepard, seen by some as America's greatest living playwright, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play Buried Child (1979). His 50 plays include Icarus's Mother , La Turista, Cowboy Mouth, True West, Fool for Love, Buried Child, A Lie of the Mind and God of Hell. He was also Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actor as Chuck Yeager in the 1983 movie The Right Stuff and Golden Globe best actor nominee for Dash and Lily.

Director Will Birch returns to Ford Transit Productions with Simpatico. Previous work includes, The Public Eye (Ford Transit Productions) and The Fields Beneath (Clio's Company)

The play is designed by  Carmen Mueck, with lighting by  Martin Bristow .

This production of ‘Simpatico' will be part of Tabard Theatre's 35th year celebrations.
