Pitch Perfect – It Very Nearly Is

Simon Plant hails the Tabard Theatre's latest production

The Tabard Theatre is recently making something of an impression on the theatrical scene and with occasional productions starting at the George IV Pub on the High Road in Chiswick, this is a good time for the fringe in West London.

A prime example is Pitch Perfect, a new comedy by Chiswick actor, writer and director Jonathan Guy Lewis. Pitch Perfect looks at the lives of a creative team working for a London media agency as they prepare to pitch for a very important account. It shows the world of advertising to be full of fakery, sexism and chronic self-interest and takes media speak and jargon to a new, hilarious level.

A strong cast bring Lewis’s words to life, multi-part playing a succession of characters. Louise Tyler plays characters that are both sexy and strong minded and vacant and vicious. Ray Eves is a touching Chris, a man struggling with his family life and monstrously funny as Don, the smarmy agency boss. And Simon de Cintra brings a nervous warmth and humour to the downtrodden, funny Phil and a Peter Sellers quality to the German Gotleib Von Kupp Holderr.

Technically the show is a bit of an event too, with some very clever audiovisual effects, including a clip from ‘A Few Good Men’.

Pitch Perfect is a perfect night out. Smart and funny I’m sure this show will eventually find a bigger stage than the intimate Tabard.
