Ruddigore Gets Extended Run

Critical acclaim and record box office leads to an extra week

Ruddigore, the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta, currently playing to packed audiences at the Tabard is to have its run extended for another week.

After getting a series of glowing reviews, including one from ChiswickW4.com, the production has proved to be a hit both with local residents and hard-core G&S fans from across London.

Our reviewer said, "If you do only one new thing before 12 June, go and see Ruddigore at the Tabard. This is Gilbert and Sullivan for the 21st century." Now you have the chance to see it up until June 19th.

Produced in association with Royal 10 Productions, which comprises some of the most talented of young graduates from one of the country’s leading music conservatoires, the Royal Academy of Music, this production imaginatively combines the wit and charm of the original work with a contemporary vigour and comedic awareness that will both delight G&S fans and engage a new audience.

The Wicked Baronets of Ruddigore are cursed, forced to do one bad deed a day or die in horrifying agony. So it comes as a huge relief when Sir Despard, the current ‘bad baronet’ finds that bashful Robin Oakapple is his long-lost elder brother and the true inheritor of the curse. Feebly committing crimes and losing his sweetheart, the righteous Rose Maybud, poor Robin believes things cannot get any worse. But his troubles really start when he proves singularly unequal to the task of fulfilling the curse, and his ancestors’ portraits begin to haunt him…

Premiered in 1887, although rarely performed, Ruddigore is part social satire, part -horror story and its greatness lies as much in its ability to move and scare us as in its potential to make us laugh. With some of Gilbert and Sullivan's best tunes and a traditionally ridiculous plot Ruddigore remains one of their most inventive confections.

Ruddigore is produced in house at the Tabard Theatre by Pulling Focus Ltd whose previous musicals include Just So and the Famous Five.

Ruddigore plays at The Tabard Theatre from Tuesday 17 May to Sunday 19 June 2011.
Tuesday – Saturday @ 7:30 pm. Sunday @ 4pm. No performances on Mondays.
