The first ever Chiswick Brass Festival is taking place at St. Paul’s Church in Grove Park this February.

Organised with the intent of inspiring and developing young musicians as well as fostering a love of brass music, the event will take place over the course of the day on Saturday 22 February.

Tom Torley, the organist and music director at the church is running the festival. He says, “We are a group of passionate musicians with a vision to inspire the next generation of brass players. As Royal College of Music graduates with a deep love for brass music, our mission is to encourage children, amateur musicians, and aspiring professionals to explore the joy of playing brass instruments. Through workshops, masterclasses, lessons, and exciting concerts, we aim to ignite a lifelong passion for music.”

In what they hope will be their first project, the festival will include performances by a wide range of emerging Brass ensembles, including Cor8 (an all-female Horn octet), The Funny Bones trombone ensemble, the West London Tuba Quartet, the Wigfield Brass Quintet with the event culminating in the Chiswick Festival Symphonic Brass Concert in the evening. This will include West Side Story, Spitfire Prelude and Fugue, Fanfare for the Common Man and Pictures at an Exhibition arranged by the late, great Elgar Howarth.

Additionally, there is an opportunity for students of grade 7/8 and above to perform in a masterclass led by Lee Tsarmaklis, the Principal Tuba of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and one of the leading professionals in the field.

Full details on how to apply are for the masterclass are on the event web site.

Tickets for the whole day cost £27.80 including booking fee with reductions for under 18s and students and can be purchased on Eventbrite. Tickets for individual performances can be purchased for £10.

There will be a chance to catch a sneak preview of some of the performers at the Chiswick Flower Market on 2 February and the Chiswick Cheese Market on 16 February.
