A special summer celebration concert is to be held at St. Nicholas Church.

Following a performance by award-winning Irish saxophonist Robert Finegan accompanied on piano by Joanna Kacperek, cream teas will be served in the Vicarage Garden.

The programme is entitled ‘American in Paris’ and includes music from Ravel, Lange, Gershwin and Boulanger.

The concert begins at 3pm on Sunday 18 August.

Robert Finegan has been described as “one of the most exciting Irish saxophone players in a generation”. He works closely with composers from around the world in the production of new works. His most recent projects include ‘A Modern View of
Ancient Ireland’ for Saxophone and Electronics, and ‘Paris Chapters’ for Voice, Saxophone and Piano inspired by Irish writers who lived in Paris. These original projects have culminated in performances across Europe.

An avid soloist and chamber musician, Robert has performed at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, National Concert Hall, Dublin, Ulster Hall, Belfast, Guildhall, Derry, and Milton Court Concert Hall. As a concerto soloist, he has performed with the DIT Symphony Orchestra, Irish Films and Pops Orchestra and RCM Wind Ensemble.

In 2021, he completed his Master of Performance degree with Distinction at the Royal College of Music, London, where he was a Dr Michael West Scholar. He previously earned his Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) from TU Dublin Conservatoire, receiving the McNamara Gold Medal for Excellence in his final year performance.

Joanna Kacperek has performed in major concert halls in her native Poland as well as in Europe, Canada and Japan. Concerto appearances include performances with such orchestras as the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic in Warsaw and the Lviv Virtuosos Chamber Orchestra. Recent performances include recitals in Oxford, London, Barcelona (LIFE Victoria Festival), and Festival de La Gente in France. Joanna’s debut solo album will be released in September this year with Rubicon Classics label.

If you only wish to attend the concert you can get a ticket on the door for £10 but if you want to go to both the performance and the cream tea you must book in advance online at a cost of £20.

All profits from this concert will go to the Church Development Fund.
