There is to be an afternoon concert at St. Nicholas Church featuring tenor Robert Folkes and pianist Michelle Chow.
The song recital on Sunday 18 June at 3pm will feature works by Handel, Poulenc, Strauss, Schumann, Ireland and Gurney.
Robert who started his singing career at Salisbury Cathedral, is in his first year studying for a masters in singing at the Royal Academy of Music. he has sung arias in cantatas for the Bach in Leipzig series at the academy and worked on building his repertoire within lieder, French and English song and opera arias. He has performed a scene from Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore as Nemorino and in his first term, was in the chorus for the academy production of Stravinsky's Rake's Progress.
Dutch-Chinese collaborative pianist Michelle Chow has performed in many venues throughout The Netherlands, the U.K. and the U.S. She was the winner of the Royal Academy of Music London Brahms Wilfrid Parry Prize, Harold Craxton Prize for chamber music, and recipient of the Evelyn German Prize, the Frank & Hilda Stokes Prize, and the Marjorie Meyer Memorial Prize.
Michelle started studying piano at the age of six in China, and returned to The Netherlands where she continued her studies in the Young Talent programme of the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague.
Tickets cost £10 on the door or £5 for students. Teat and cake will be served afterwards for £5. All payments by cash or card.
All profits to the St Nicholas Church Development Fund for restoration of the outside stonework. The Friends of St Nicholas Church have expressed its gratitude to Charlotte Fraser for additional sponsorship for the musicians.
St Nicholas is the earliest of the parish churches of Chiswick. Founded some 1,300 years ago, it was rebuilt in the 1880s, but the tower dates from 1425.
The purpose of the Friends of St Nicholas Church is the repair and maintenance of the building and churchyard, and its fixtures, fittings, and contents. The group raises funds from Friends’ subscriptions, and from events in the church and elsewhere. New members are always welcome. Click here for information on how to join.
