English classical music will mark Jubilee celebrations
The West London Sinfonia, an orchestra made up of players from Chiswick and Ealing, will kick-off Chiswick’s celebrations of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, with an evening of English music on May 26th, at St. Michael and All Angels Church at 7.30pm
Elgar, Maxwell Davies, Britten, Walton are included in this programme with crowd pleasing pieces including The Enigma Variations (Elgar), and Crown Imperial (Walton) originally written for the coronation.
The programme also includes a World Premier of a piece written by local composer Cecilia McDowell, written for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and dedicated to the orchestra.
The orchestra is full of players who live in Chiswick and Bharat Parmar, owner of Genco Male Grooming on Devonshire Rd, who plays violin in the orchestra, is keen to garner local support for the orchestra:
“With loads of talented musicians in the Chiswick area, there is a lot of music-making is going on. There is already a lot of support for the orchestra from Chiswickians so it is only natural that we do more concerts in Chiswick. Next year we have already pencilled 3 concerts at St. Michaels and All Angels. This Jubilee concert is our biggest Chiswick event to date, and the programme is inspiring and celebratory. It’s great that we have easy access to great live music, without always having to go into central London. This stuff is happening right on our door-step!”

She has won many awards and has been short-listed several times for the British Composer Awards. West London Sinfonia recently concluded its 40th year of music making with a very successful celebratory concert at St Johns Smith Square. The players consist of professionals and very good amateurs most of whom live in Chiswick, Ealing and Acton. The orchestra performs five concerts locally, and one in central London.
The orchestra performs a wide variety of music, from Parry to Pärt, and Mozart to MacMillan, but tend to concentrate on larger orchestral music from the 19th (especially late 19th) and early twentieth centuries.
