A much-acclaimed British concert pianist is set to return to perform again in St. Michael and All Angels Church.

Bedford Park resident Mark Viner played at the venue last December and is back on Wednesday 2 October at 7.30pm.

As well as music from some better-known composers he will be playing a piece from Alkan, a French composer of whose work Mark has done a complete survey. His advocacy for the music of Alkan led to his election as Chairman the Alkan Society 2014.

The programme for the evening is as follows:

Beethoven Sonata, op.13 'Pathétique"
Schumann Waldszenen, op.82
Alkan 3e Recueil de chants, op.65
Chaminade Etude, op.35 no.2 'Automne
Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody no.9 'Carnival in Pest"

Mark began playing at the age of 11 before being awarded a scholarship two years later to enter the Purcell School of Music for the next five years. Another scholarship took him to the Royal College of Music where he studied with the late Niel Immelman for the next six years, graduating with first class honours in a Bachelor of Music degree in 2011 and a distinction in Master of Performance 2013; the same year which afforded him the honour to perform before the current King.

After winning 1st prize at the Alkan-Zimmerman International Piano Competition in Athens, Greece in 2012, his career has brought him across much of Europe as well as North and South America.

Tickets can be purchased online for £20 or at the door from 7pm.

The church's series of lunch time organ recitals also continues on the following dates:

4 October: Andrew Wells (St George’s Campden Hill)
1 November: Jack Redman (St Peter’s Acton Green)
6 December: Timara Easter – 2022 details (Concert organist)

The concerts take place from 12.30 to 1.15pm on the first Friday of the month in the beautiful Arts & Crafts church close to Turnham Green tube station.

The care provider Home Instead, Chiswick & Hammersmith, co-sponsors the organ recitals alongside Ballet4Life, which has sponsored the concerts for several years. Admission is free with a collection to help pay for the music provision at St Michael & All Angels.
