The sixth annual Great River Swim on Saturday 8th September attracted a record entry of 38 swimmers.

The competitors had to contend with a headwind and a strong flood tide over the first half of the 1000m course from Chiswick Pier to Chiswick Eyot but enjoyed the return leg back to the pier.

Safety cover was provided by Chiswick Sea Cadets who were the nominated charity for this year and also Chiswick Pier Canoe Club.

Many of the competitors were from local triathlon clubs or open water swimming enthusiasts from the Serpentine and Tooting bec Lido.

The leading Chiswick resident was Duncan Thomson from Upham Park Road who finished fifth overall in 15 mins 17 secs. Samad Masood from Corney Reach Way placed 14th in 17 mins 38 secs.
