Join the Royal British Legion as they mark the day

At 10.40 am, members of the Royal British Legion will meet at the Chiswick Memorial Club with others who will lay wreaths, and process along Chiswick High Road to the War Memorial at 10.50 am, where the Rev Richard Moy, Vicar of Christ Church Turnham Green, joined by Canon Anthony Dwyer from Our Lady of Grace, will lead prayer, the two minute silence and laying tributes at the War Memorial.

Remembrance Service in the church follows. The congregation invite attendees to stay for coffee in the Church, at the end.

The Chiswick Memorial Club, usually closed to non-members, offer hospitality to all involved in the Remembrance parade. It is a good chance for the ex-service community to see what the Chiswick Memorial Club and Chiswick Royal British Legion have to offer.

Veterans wearing medals are cordially invited to join the Chiswick Royal British Legion contingent in the procession.

Because the enclosure around the memorial is so small it is being restricted to the clergy and those laying wreaths. The general public are very welcome to participate, from outside the railings,

The Deputy Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Mindu Bains, is attending, with the Deputy Mace Bearer. The families of the late Gurkha VCs, who lived at the War Memorial Homes in Burlington Lane, will be laying a wreath for all Gurkhas. Music will be provided at the War Memorial by the students of the Hounslow Music service brass quintet. Chiswick Sea Cadets, based at Chiswick Pier and 206 Chiswick Army Cadet Detachment based at Stamford Brook, will be heading the parade.

Paul Lynch, chairman of Chiswick Royal British Legion says, "Every year it gets bigger and better attended, as does the total of donations to the Poppy Appeal. Many people have connections with those who have served in Afghanistan, and know how it feels to be concerned about dear ones who are in deadly danger. The Deputy Mace Bearer, Dharma Tamang, served in 2/2 Gurkha Rifles, and his son-in-law, Rifleman Prakash Rai, is serving with 1 Gurkha Rifles. Prakash has recently returned from Helmand province, to our great delight. Sadly two of his comrades, due to return very soon, were killed last week. This war, though far away, is very close to home for many."

The president of Chiswick Royal British Legion, Mary Macleod MP says, "I have undertaken to visit all the Remembrance Day services in the constituency in turn, and sadly this year is not the turn of Chiswick. People should turn out to support their local Remembrance parade, but Chiswick is especially important, as the award winning Chiswick Royal British Legion branch looks like beating all of London yet again with its Poppy collection again this year. we are all very grateful to the help of the cadets who have spent so much time on the collection, and the generous and compassionate people of Chiswick."

The Remembrance Sunday service at St Michael & All Angels, starts at 9.45am, with a Choral Requiem Mass (Faure) followed by Procession to the War Memorial to observe two minutes' silence at 11am.
